The recent presence of the Prato district at the Textiles Recycling Expo in Brussels – the first European fair entirely dedicated to recycled textiles – marks an important moment. For the first time, the district was officially represented on an international stage dedicated to the sustainable future of the sector.
A positive signal, certainly. But for this initiative not to remain an isolated episode, it would be desirable for a new phase to open from here, made of comparison , inclusion and real collaboration between all the actors in the territory.
For years, entities like ASTRI have been working in this direction. Silently, without spotlights, but with continuity and vision . Its action in promoting the circular economy , in weaving networks at national and European level, and in supporting concrete technical solutions , represents a precious resource . Ignoring it or leaving it on the sidelines would mean wasting an already existing heritage.
It is precisely now , as the spotlight is turned on the district, that it would be necessary to systematize skills , experiences and planning . A united front – between institutions, associations and companies – could strengthen the role of Prato in the European panorama and make the path towards a truly sustainable textile more solid and credible .
Participation in Brussels was a start . Now, however, continuity is needed . And above all, collaboration .
