As already mentioned above, the creation of regenerated products according to the new REACH regulation, which will come into force in February 2021, is far from simple.
The limit concentration of APEOS (ethoxylated alkylphenols) will change within each sample, which must be equal to and not greater than 100 ppm, a very small value compared to normal standards (around 300 ppm).
The inconveniences that follow are different, and for this reason we had chosen to send a request for help to the Ministry of Economic Development.
The institutions responded by offering us two possible solutions:
- The first is to create 100% regenerated products, without using other fibers; this choice would create problems related to the specifications of the major brands, which would thus increase APEOS.
- The second suggests inserting on the labels of each product “dry cleaning”; this option would avoid (in theory) washing in water, which is the largest source of pollution and contamination of marine fauna.
We at Fil-3, in our small way, are still studying a way to reach the limits required by the next regulations, also trying to find the best applicable solution.
